Tallaght Athletic Club athlete wins National Juvenile Title

Robert Fitzsimons growing reputation in athletics circles was enhanced further at the weekend when he successfully defended his 2002 National title to take the gold medal in the 2003 U15 1500M final at the AAI All Ireland Juvenile Track and Field Championships in Tullamore.
In a quality field Robert raced to the front of the pack from the start and dictated the pace to the point that the field of 19 was stretched back over thirty metres with five athletes dying for the lead on the final lap.
Robert was challenged twice in the last 150 metres for the lead but found more each time and went away to win by 2 metres. In doing so he produced a personal best performance of 4.28.1 which was four seconds faster than his previous best time and is well inside the UK AAA qualifying standard.

In a busy weekend at the midland venue Tallaghts Tracy Williams also did the club proud when finishing 3rd in the U19 1500M final.
Darren Byrne produced three personal best jumps to finish 6th in U17 Long Jump while Claire Murray narrowly missed out on medals when finishing fourth in the U19 Shot Putt and Discus.

The club is back in action at the same venue next Sunday when 19 athletes will compete in the National “B” Track and Field championships.
