Tallaght Take Overall Honours

The combined efforts of our juvenile athletes secured overall honours and the perpetual trophy at the Clondalkin A.C. Annual Open Cross Country Meet on Sunday 9th March in Corkagh Park.

Nadine Johnston set the standard with a clear cut victory in the U8 200m contest. Amy Collins did exceptionally well in her first competition , taking bronze in the U9 300m and in the boys equivalent Fionn Carroll, the Dublin U10 500m Indoor champion looked all over a winner, but unfortunately had no room to pass on the narrow run in and had to settle for silver.

At U10 degree, Ronan Mc Eneaney battled well over the course of his 600m contest, and in the run to the finish held off a number of competitors to claim his 1st individual cross country bronze medal.

The ever persistent Evan Flynn produced the second gold on the day with another spirited performance in the U11 800m where he covered all the moves and with 200m remaining he wound up the pace until crossing the line to victory.

In the U12 1,000m boys contest, Conor Murray was in his usual competitive form, leading from the start, he gradually put daylight between himself and his opponents and crossed the unopposed to take a 3rd win for the club.

Our competitors in the U13 contests were again to the fore, with Jade Johnston taking silver behind the 2007 National U12 cross country champion over 1000m and John Daly taking an excellent bronze behind two very talented athletes over 1200m, whilst Sean Mc Cabe, who set the pace in the early stages of the same contest, ran on very strongly to follow John home in 4th, taking valuable points in the process.

Sean Fitzsimons was another in good form on the day, leading the field for most of the way in the U15 2,000m event , he battled strongly only to be passed in the final 200m., but secured silver and additional points towards the overall honours for his efforts.

The fourth win of the day was recorded by Roisin O’ Hanlon who lead from start to finish in her U16 2,000m contest and her victory was followed up by Sean Fitzpatrick who finished off the day in good style to record a fifth win for the club on the day in his U17 4,000m contest.
