Additional Championship Silverware for Tallaght Juveniles

At the concluding day of the Dublin Juvenile Indoor Track and Field Championships at Santry last Sunday, Tallaght AC juveniles were again in good form, securing an additional 6 medals and National qualification.

In the 200m contests Rebecca Game went top of the podium with an emphatic win at U18 level whilst Karl Arkins secured bronze at U16 degree and later added another in the long jump event. At U17 degree, David O’ Brien produced some good efforts in his first Championship outing to take bronze in the long jump, whilst Niall Meehan took silver in the high jump contest, and in the U18 shot putt, Christine Reardon produced some solid throws to take silver.

Elsewhere on the same day, a number of Tallaght juvenile athletes were again to the fore when representing their local areas in the Dublin Community Games cross country finals in Tymon Park.

The event kicked off with Cherish Cannon, representing Killinarden securing her place on the Dublin U12 mixed distance relay squad, after finishing 4th in the 500m contest. In the boy’s equivalent, Conor Murray, representing Kilnamanagh did likewise with an emphatic win, and he was followed home in second by Aaron Conroy who also represented the same area, with Evan Flynn, representing Oldbawn, also securing his place on the 6 man squad.

In the U13 contests, run over a distance of 1200m, John Daly, representing Limekiln took the gold medal convincingly in the boy’s contest, with Eoghan Mc Donagh the Killinarden representative following him home in 2nd, whilst in the girls equivalent Jade Johnston, was also a convincing winner for Killinarden, with Savanah Hurley also featuring for Killinarden in 3rd position.

At U14 degree, Keith Doherty secured a place for Kilnamanagh on the Dublin mixed distance relay squad after his third place finish in the 700m contest.

All the Community games qualifiers will be looking forward to the National finals to be held in Mosney in May whilst the Santry medal winners will be Nenagh bound in April for the AAI National Juvenile Indoor Championships
