Tallaght AC were back on the podium and in some
style after competing in the Lucan Harriers Tom Byrne Memorial 5K Road
race last Wednesday evening. The race always attracts a good turnout and
incorporates the Dublin Novice Road Championships with the opportunity
to go on and represent Dublin at the Leinster Novice Championships.
Tomas Fitzpatrick has been training hard at the club and he got his
reward storming home in 1st place overall to take the Memorial trophy
and Novice Championship in a new course record time of 15.34. Niall
Coppinger finished 9th in 16.35 and won the Male 0/45 award, Keith
Sherlock was 12th in 16.46 and Tony Keeley was 18th in 17.02 and won the
Male 0/40 award and their cumulative scoring was good enough for the
team to win the Interclub Team Gold medal. Colm Barcoe ,Mark Byrne,Sean
Walsh and Richard Dunne also put in sound performances.
The Ladies team were led home by Aileen Connolly in 22.15 just two
seconds ahead of Paula Murray.Patricia Clarke and Susan Adams packed
well and their scores produced a 5th place team finish for the club.
Michelle Fitzpatrick, Susan Holland, Peig Henry, Regina Coleman and
Aileen Oman all ran well in a show of strength from the club with 9
ladies running in the club colours.
The Club also made its presence felt at Sundays Sportsworld 5 Mile
Classic Road race. This event always brings out the crowds and Tallaght
AC were once again led home by Tomas Fitzpatrick in a very pleasing 9th
place overall with Davy Byrne in 11th and Niall Coppinger in 18th and
their combined places were enough for the Club to secure 1st place in
the Senior Team category. Coppingers place won him the O/45 award, Tony
Keeley secured the O/40 bronze medal award, Desie Shorten won the O/50
award with Frank Ferguson also scoring well the Club were placed 2nd in
the Masters Team Category.
The Ladies were not to be outdone and although few in number they also
made the podium with Deirdre Pitts winning the O/40 category and Jacqui
Boyle took 2nd place in the same category. Marisa Carton finished well
in 38.43 and Alison Larkin was also pleased with her run.
