The Dunshaughlin 10km drew a
great field from throughout the country last saturday night.
The organisers decision to stage the race on a Saturday was a good one
with the race attracting a large field. The course was well marshalled
and described as being "on the tough side".
Despite the club being involved in the ESB National League and the
Wicklow Masters Track and Field our athletes in Dunshaughlin certainly
made their mark! Tallaght runner Dave Byrne went clear after the first
kilometre and had a comfortable margin over his pursuers Nicky
McGuinness and Mike Boyle. This is the second time that Dave has won this
race and he can be well pleased with his time 32.07.
Richard Dunne is a new recruit to the Senior Mens ranks in Tallaght and
he can be well satisfied with his 44.56
The Womens masters categories were certainly a keenly contested affair
and Tallaght had two wins with Deirdre Pitts time 43.02 placing her in
2nd place in the V2 category and Liz Conroy placed 1st in the V5
category with her time 47.07.
Peter Fizsimons made his debut over the distance and the course and
despite a niggling calf injury from early in the race the Tallaght man
won the junior mens U20 award and he has two more years to have a crack
at the course record.
