Ras na hEireann International Cross Country
Competition
Tallaght Athletic club sent a strong team to compete in last Sunday’s Ras na hEireann International Cross Country competition which was held in Dunleer County Louth. The competition attracted large numbers of athletes from Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Russia and the USA.
The clubs youngest competitors Shannon Mahon and Alan Hudson did really well finishing 9th and 10th respectively in their U9 races.
First on the podium was Anne Marie Mc Clean who took bronze in the U11 800M. Her team mates Robyn Reece, Lauren Power, Carol Jones all ran really well and missed out on a team medal by just two points.
Tallaght Athletes dominated the U13 Girls 1200M with Aisling Johnston running away from the field to take the Gold medal and her team- mates Rebecca Game, Roisin O Hanlon, Fiona Byrne, Shauna Murphy and Ciara O Leary didn’t let her down when they won the Team Gold medal.
The Boys U15 3000M was also dominated by Tallaght Athletes with Robert Fitzsimons finishing in the Silver medal position and his team of Luke Coleman, Sean Bolger, David Somerville, Peter Fitzsimons and Michael Solan also won the Team silver medal.
Bronagh O Hanlon showed her recent return to form was no fluke when she mixed it with the best in the U17/19 Junior 4000M race to finish in 6h place overall and take bronze in the U17 grade.
Anna King finished in sixth place in the Ladies Masters Race and Dessie Shorten finished in the 5h place in the Men’s Masters race with club mate Derek Quinn just behind in 9th position.
The club will send a strong team to next weeks National Juvenile Track and Field Championships in Nenagh. |
