Tallaght AC hosted the Dublin Masters Cross Country Championship on Sunday but had to do so at the ALSAA Sports Complex due to Tymon Park being water logged.
Both races attracted large entries and the athletes had to contend with very mucky conditions on the flat 7K course.
The ladies were first into the fray and Deirdre Pitts led the team home in 29th place. The rest of the ladies team packed well with Jaqui Boyle in 31st, Liz Conroy 35th, Susan Adams 36th, Patricia Clarke 38th, Janice Mahon 39th and Mary Jenner in 42nd. Liz Conroy picked up a silver medal for her placing in the O/55 category.

The men’s team were not to be outdone by the ladies and Desie Shorten ran a stormer to finish in 11th place overall and he took the Gold medal in the O/50 category. Garry Clarke won the Gold medal in the O/55 category and Vivian O Hanlon got bronze in this category with 3rd place. Niall Coppinger can be pleased with his 14th place finish, Billy Murphy was 24th, Derek Quinn 34th, Martin Haddock 43rd, Garry Moralee 45th, Frank Ferguson 50th, Karl Geraghty 56th and Terry Fayne 63rd.

Elsewhere the club were represented at a highly competitive AAI Indoor Games in Nenagh. This is traditionally the first event of the Indoor Track and Field season and provides the athletes with the opportunity to test their early season form. Sean Bolger had a busy day finishing 3rd in the 60M “B” race and 4th in the 200M “A” race.
Sherif Oyebanji made his track debut and finished 4th in the 200M “D” race. David Somerville will be well pleased with his personal best time (2.45.51) when he finished in 6th place in the 1000M “B” race.
