Niall Coppinger was in top form in the recent
Adidas Half Marathon in the Phoenix Park where he finished 19th of the
large field of over 8,000 competitors, recording an excellent time of
1.15.32 in the process and taking the top award in the O/45 category. He
was followed a few places back by Eoin Brennan in 23rd in a time of
1.16.08. This was undoubtedly a superb performance by Eoin, considering
he has only been back in training for less than a few months, after an
absence of many years. James Crowly was next to finish in 45th (1.19.05)
and was followed home by Ifran Quereshi (1.29.23), Ray Fitzsimons
(1.31.32), Vivian O’ Hanlon (1.32.21) and father son Dave (1.42.29) and
Niall Meehan who was the 10th junior to finish.
Our ladies were also well up in the large
field, with club captain Jaqui Boyle again leading them home after she
crossed the line in 1.31.10 (5th in the O/40 category). Deirdere Pitts
was next, followed by Liz Conroy who took third spot in the O/55
category after recording 1.48.50 when crossing the finish line. Gwen
Baker did exceptionally well in her first half marathon outing after she
finished in 1.48.43 and she was followed home by Marisa Mc Millan
(1.48.50) and Susan Adams (1.51.16) who both recorded personal bests for
the distance, with debutantes, Susan Holland (1.53.25), Mairead Nic
Siosta (1.54.21), Tracy Powell (1.59.22) and Martina Farrell (1.59.22)
all finishing well.
Elsewhere on Sunday last Tallaght our juveniles
competed in the 2nd of the Dublin cross country league series in the
grounds of Newbridge House, Donabate where there were some good
performances from the likes of Nadine Johnston Hickey who finished 2nd
in the U10 600m and Seamus Noone who took 3rd in the boy’s equivalent.
At U15 degree, Sean Mc Cabe went one place better than the previous
weeks outing in the Phoenix Park , taking 2nd after a tough 2,000m race
and Roisin O’ Hanlon and Sean Fitzpatrick made in two wins from two in
their respective U18 and U19 contests.
