Tallaght AC Busy Over Bank Holiday Weekend

Tallaght AC athletes featured prominently in the Saint Patricks Day Metro St Brigids /KBC 4 Mile Road Race in the Phoenix Park.

The race attracted almost 800 entries and the tough course was made even tougher by the windy conditions.

Tomas Fitzpatrick produced a top drawer performance to finish in 10th place overall in 20.40.Niall Coppinger and Desie Shorten won 1st place in the O/40 and O/45 Categories respectively. Peter Fitzsimons continued his rich vein of a form with 27th place overall and 3rd place in the Junior Male category. Roisin O Hanlon made light work of the course to take her first ever Junior Lady award in 1st place. Deirdre Pitts time of 28.21 ranked her 4th in the O/40 category while Janice Mahon who is in her first season with the club produced a superb performance to take 3rd place in the O/45 category. Liz Conroy is an ever- present category winner and she secured 2nd place in the O/55 category. Marisa Carton ran a very pleasing debut over the distance while Aileen Connolly, Michelle Fitzpatrick and Susan Adams also ran well in mid pack.

The Club were also represented in the Woodies DIY National Junior Indoor Track and Field Championships in Nenagh on Sunday.

Sean Bolger is competing over 400M this year and he can be quite pleased with his heat win in which he produced a Personal Best time of 53.28. This time ranked him in 7th place overall in the event and augurs well for Sean as he can compete at this level again next year.

Robert Fitzsimons made a welcome return to the track after 6 months struggling with injuries. He lined up in the 800M final and sat patiently in mid pack until 350 metres to go. He moved through to the front of the field and ran out a comfortable winner in a personal best time of 2.02.81. David Somerville also acquitted himself well finishing in 6th place.

The club will be back in Nenagh next weekend to compete in the National Juvenile Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
