Sean Connolly lined up in the
Lehigh Valley Half Marathon near Allentown Pennsylvania last Sunday with
1499 runners and produced a performance of some promise to finish in 2nd
place and just one second behind the winner in 69minutes 8 seconds.
Sean returns from the US to Tallaght next week and will undoubtedly
strengthen up the clubs Senior Team which is already making its mark on
the racing circuit.
Also in the States, Tracey Williams competed in the prestigious Penn
Relays with Iona College and ran a super split time of 4.30 for the
1500M and this helped the Iona Team achieve their highest ever Team
placing at this event in 7th place. This is an American Championships
event and 40,000 spectators watched the event so well done Tracey!
Meantime last week saw quite a few Tallaght athletes compete at the Kit
Kat West Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships in Santry
Stadium. The competition was tough as usual and top three finishers
would be rewarded with a place in the Leinster Championships that will
be held in three weeks time.
Robert Fitzsimons got the club off to a great start when he won the
2000M Steeple-chase event with Luke Coleman also running well in 2nd
place. Brian Connolly won the 1500M Steeple-chase and finished 3rd in
the 3K behind Peter Fitzsimons who also produced a great run to finish
4th in the 1500M.
Aoibheann Tierney just missed out with a 4th place finish in the 1500M
and Anthony Lieghio won the 800M and was placed 2nd in the 1500M.
In the Sprints Sean Bolger continued his rich vein of form and will
shake them up in the Leinsters while Harmony Enzei was placed 3rd in the
High Jump.
Tomas Fitzpatrick and David Byrne made the short trip to Irishtown
Stadium last week to compete at the Dublin Athletic Board Graded Meet in
the 3K Development Race. Tomas finished in 4th place in a season‘s best
of time of 8.42.54 with club mate David Byrne placed 5th in 8.44.95.
Tallaght were also well represented at the BHAA /RTE 5 miler last
Saturday. Keith Sherlock was the clubs top scorer in 12th place while
Desie Shorten and Derek Quinn also broke the 30 minute barrier.
Its also great to see so many ladies training at the club these days and
6 of our new girls competed at the ladies Meet and Train 3miler in
Raheny last Sunday and we await final results on this one
