There were some fine performances from a number
of our athletes, both senior and juvenile in Championship and other
competitions last weekend.
At the National Junior and U23 Championships, held in Tullamore, Eoin
Dunne, a recent addition to our club ranks, despite having to contend
with very humid conditions he posted a new personal best of 15.14.06
when storming to victory in the 5k, beating his previous best time by 17
seconds.
Our seniors also produced the goods at the Leinster Novice and Masters
Road race Championships in Dundalk on Friday last where Billy Murphy won
silver, Derek Quinn, bronze and Frank Ferguson bronze, in the O40/O45
and O50 categories respectively, and Derek and Billy combined with
Martin Haddock and James Crowley to win silver in the Novice team
category.
Elsewhere in the Dublin Community Games Finals, at Santry, Aisling
Johnston, representing Killinarden won the U16 Marathon for the second
year in succession, with both Rebecca Game, representing Belgard and
Brian Connolly representing Kilnamanagh winning the boys and girls U16
1500m events. Conor Murray also won gold for Kilnamanagh in the U10 200m
as did Amy Connaughton the U12 ball throw, with Glen Fullam doing
likewise in the boys equivalent for Killinarden.
Other medalists at the Community Games finals were, Zara Gaynor silver
U16 javelin, Lauren Morris, silver U8 80m, Ciara Henry, bronze in the
U14 long jump, Colm Oman 4th place certificate, U16 7k marathon
(qualifier for Nationals) and Emily Morris 4th U8 80m, all representing
Kilnamanagh. Dylan Murphy took silver in the U14 80m hurdles as did
James Wall in the U12 600m with Jason Fullam winning bronze in the U14
shot putt and Annmarie Mc Clean, Dylan Murphy, Jessica Wall and Jason
Fullam combing to take the U15 mixed relay bronze, all for Killinarden.
Angela Prior took bronze in the U8 80m contest for Belgard.

Elsewhere on Sunday last there was further
success in the Rathfarnham 5k, with Sean Connolly, home on holiday from
the States finishing 2nd and combined with Davy Byrne and Thomas
Fitzpatrick they took second prize in the senior category, beaten by
only one point by the hosts, Rathfarnham. Niall Coppinger took the
winners prize in the O/40 category, whilst in the junior category, Peter
Fitzsimons took second and Luke Coleman third, and combined with David
Somerville they won the team event. Our ladies team were led home by
Catherina Baldinger, followed by Aillen Connolly who recorded another
p.b. for the distance with Aoibheann Tierney next to finish for the
club.

Also, on Saturday last in the Cork City Sports,
Ronan Kearns recorded another p.b, 1.55.93 when finishing 7th in the
800m.
