At the recent National Cross Country
Championships which took place at Tramore on November 23rd and
Ballyhaise, Co Cavan on Sunday last 7th December a number of our
juvenile athletes produced some fine performances, winning individual
and team medals.
Our U12 and U13 Dublin Champion Evan Flynn was again in fine form at
both events, taking a 4th place individual medal ahead of more than 130
other finishers, after a very close finish to the U12 1,000m contest at
Tramore, where he also added a second medal after leading the Dublin
team to gold in the Inter County category. He followed this up with
another good run over 1200m at Ballyhaise when helping the Dublin U13
team take the bronze medals back to the Capital.
At the same venue, Jade Johnston, the Dublin
U13 bronze medallist was another to put in a fine display over 1,000m
and although she didn’t manage to finish amongst the top 12 medallists
in the large field of 145 finishers, she did enough to help the Dublin
team take Gold in the Inter County category.
Tallaght trio, John Daly, Keith Doherty and Conor Murray were three of
the six scoring members of the Dublin team that secured Inter County
team bronze medals, after they finished well up in the large field of
over 130 competitors in the U14 1500m contest at Tramore.
Thomas Fitzpatrick produced another excellent run when he crossed the
finish line in 7th, after a tough 6k run over a meandering and hilly
course, ahead of more than 120 other athletes who completed the National
Novice Championships in Ballyhaise.
