Tallaght Colours Flying at the Rathfarnham 5K Road
Race!
Over 500 athletes lined up to compete in a very
competitive Rathfarnham 5K Road Race last Sunday. Conditions were good
with a cool breeze facing the athletes from the start. The field
included some of Irelands best Junior and Senior Road racing talent.
From the off fifteen athletes moved ahead of the large field with
Tallaght's Tomas Fitzpatrick right there with the best of them. The
fifteen became 10 and Tomas hung on grimly to secure a very satisfactory
10th place in 14.56
.
Next home for Tallaght was Davey Byrne and his 21st place finish in
15.34 won him 1st place in the O/35 Category.
A very welcome addition to the Tallaght ranks is Mauritius bred Jeetun
Dharmajai and despite carrying a bad chest cold Jeetun finished well in
16.02.
Niall Coppingers time of 16.20 secured him 2nd place in the O/45
Category and Niall, Dave Byrne and Dessie Shortens combined times saw
them take the podium to receive their 1st place Masters Team award.
Kevin Donohue, Tom Fitzpatrick, Keith Sherlock, Irfan Qureshi and Terry
Fayne were others to represent the club in the mens division.
Tallaghts young runners were not to be outdone on the day and Peter
Fitzsimons led the juniors home in 4th place with Luke Coleman not far
behind. Peters brother Sean made his debut in the Junior ranks and
produced a great performance to anchor the team and their combined times
were just good enough to secure the Junior Team title with Raheny
Shamrocks in 2nd place.
The club had just two ladies competing and Betty Fitzpatrick and Carol
Coleman can be well pleased with their achievements on the day.
The Club returns to action next week where they will line up in the
Dublin Intermediate Cross Country Championships in Tymon Park.
