Tallaght Juveniles Shine again in Championships
Our juveniles had an extremely busy schedule
last weekend with a number of them competing in both the Dublin Track &
Field Championships in Santry and the National Community Games cross
country finals in Mosney. Although this meant a lot of travelling from
one venue to the other for the likes of Conor Murray, Jade Johnston,
John Daly, Keith Doherty and Killian Morris, they all drew on their
reserves of stamina and contributed to the haul of 31 Championship
medals for the club.
Conor Murray was in tremendous form in the U13 category when he took the
600m title in a great time of 1.41.3 on the Friday evening and again on
Saturday when he handed over the baton in 1st place for the Dublin
Community Games team, after running the 600m leg of the U12 cross
country relay in Mosney. Conor travelled back to Santry to take bronze
in the U13 long jump championships and on Sunday, after another good run
in the cross country relay in Mosney where he helped the Dublin team to
4th placed certificates he returned to Santry again to take the high
jump title in a new P.B., and secured silver in both the shot putt and
javelin and bronze in the 80m.
Keith Doherty was another competing on both
stages and in addition to helping the Dublin team secure 4th place
certificates in Mosney, after two good 600m final leg runs on both
Saturday and Sunday mornings in the U14 mixed distance cross country
relay he also travelled back to Santry where he won Dublin titles in the
both the U14 100m and long jump and added bronze in the javelin and shot
putt.
John Daly, Jade Johnston and Killian Morris competed in Mosney as
members of the U13 Dublin Community mixed (boys & girls) cross country
team. Running over a distance of 1200m in the semi-final on Saturday
morning, John finished 3rd overall with Jade well up in the top 20
runners and Killian a few places further back in the field of more than
80 runners. Although the team did not qualify for the final the trio put
in some sterling performances on their return to Santry for the track &
field championships, where John Daly secured the U14 1500m title, Jade
the U13 javelin title and bronze in the 600m and Killian bronze in the
U14 high jump contest in which club-mate Sean Mc Cabe scaled the same
heights, but lost out on count back. Sean also missed out on the medals
when finishing 4th in the U14 100m final.
At U10 degree, Eamonn Conroy took the long jump
title after taking bronze in the 300m final and Fionn Carroll took
another title for the club in the 60m sprint, whilst Eoin Doherty had to
settle for silver after a very close finish in the U12 80m sprint final.
In his first Dublin Championships Eoin Reardon
was in great for in the field events, securing the U14 hammer title,
silver in the javelin and bronze in the discus, whilst Sean Fitzsimons
took bronze in the U16 discus final. The U16 girl’s javelin competition
saw two Tallaght athletes fighting it out to the finish, with Zara
Gaynor eventually topping the podium ahead of Robyn Reece in the final
few throws.
At U18 degree, Rebecca game won silver in both the 200m and 300m sprints
and Ciaran Mackey, in his first championships took silver in the 200m
and bronze in the 300m. Christine Reardon rounded off the weekend for
the club when taking Gold in both the U18 Hammer and Discus finals.
