Tallaght Ladies come good at Meet and Train in Raheny

The final race of the Ladies Meet and Train Cross Country Winter League took place in St Anne’s Park in Raheny last Sunday. Despite the tough underfoot conditions Tallaght AC had no less that 8 runners line up in a large field of 81 competitors.

Going into this race the Tallaght “A” team lay in 4th place in the league behind Donore Harriers “A” team, so a very strong showing was required from the Tallaght outfit if they were to leap frog Donore in the team standings.

Sharon Tighe has been a model of consistency in this league having been placed in the top 6 in all of her league races and right from the outset she made her presence felt racing into the leading pack. With just a few meters separating 2nd, third and 4th the mucky run in to the line was to have its effect and Sharon came home in 4th place.
Paula Murray certainly played her part too when she improved on her first league placing of 24th to finish 12th yesterday.

Marisa Mc Millan and Jenny Jones are related to each other and they could not be separated at the finish coming home in 19th and 20th place. Lisa Young bounced back from a very tough race last week to secure her highest ever league placing in 29th and Susan Holland also improved her placing from 53rd to 39th. Grainne Coogan ran on Saturday in a Business House Cross Country race but lined up with the squad yesterday and together with Regina Moody and Carol Coleman they fought all the way to the line to secure the best possible team placing.

These results were good enough to secure the Tallaght Team 3rd place in the league and this is the Club’s highest placing in the Cross Country winter league in quite a few years.

The Club hopes to build on this success and ladies of all ability levels are welcome to come and check us out at the Clubhouse on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7pm.
