After his recent win at BMC meet in Watford
where he ran a superb race, clocking a new p.b. for the 800m,
Anthony Lieghio was again in top form at the National U23
Championships in Tullamore where he again topped the podium after
storming to victory to take the National U23 800m title in a time of
1.50.3, more than 3 seconds clear of his nearest rival and the same
venue, Brian Connolly was only one place off the medals after he
finished 4th In the Junior 3,000m steeple chase final.
Elsewhere, Sean Connolly was again in top
form at a meet in Alexander Stadium, Birmingham where he again
recorded a new P.B, this time in the 10,000m where he finished 5th
in a time of 29.02 behind the Ugandan winner who was followed home
by Romanian, a Fin and an Australian, whilst at home on our own
track in Tallaght our U16 4X100m relay team, John Daly, Sean Mc
Cabe, Conor Murray and Keith Doherty stormed to victory ahead of a
good DSD squad in the Dublin Juvenile Championships.
In the National Team Championships in Templemore the club was
represented by many of our younger juveniles who were paired
together in track & field contests. After qualifying in the
Dublin Championships, cousins Luke & Aaron Murray put up a good
show in the U9 ball throw contest, as did Sophia Kourrini and Amy
Turley in the girls equivalent, whilst Jordan Conroy & Carl
Graham did likewise in the U10 contest and both also did well in the
60m.
The club was doubly represented at U11 degree with Nazim Kourrini
& Seamus Noone paired together in the 600m where Seamus had a
great run to finish 3rd in his contest and recorded the 5th fastest
time overall. The other pairing of Christopher Duffy & James
Ackerman put in some solid displays in both the 600m and ball throw
contests, with Christopher, despite an arm in plaster, recording the
3rd fastest time overall when winning his 600m contest in a time of
1.53.7 and James recording the longest throw of over 40.44m in the
ball throw, more than 8m longer than any other competitor.
Many of our juveniles will be looking forward to the National
Juvenile Track & Field Contests next weekend in Tullamore and
the Dublin Community Games in Santry where many will be representing
their local areas, whilst the likes of Anthony Lieghio and Sean
Connolly will be pursuing their quests for European qualifying
times.
