After the 3rd Juvenile T&F League meeting in Santry last
Friday evening Santry many of our juveniles again competed very well and
added additional points with a number consolidating their positions at
the top of their divisions to put them well in contention for League
honours.
Conor Murray went six points clear of his nearest rival at U16 degree
after he won the 1200m and Javelin and took the runner up spot in both
the 100m and long jump contests and it will be a task for Adam Raitt of
Brothers Pearse to claw back the deficit in the final meet on this
Friday evening at Irishtown.
In the girls equivalent age group Jade Johnston secured additional
points after she won the javelin, finished 2nd in the 1200m,
4th in the long jump and 6th in the 100m and her
54 points total leaves her with an unassailable lead over her nearest
rival.
In the U15 division Epey Mutanga slipped back to 4th place
after he missed the last meet but is still well in contention for the
top six honours, whilst Eoin Doherty presently in 6th should
also consolidate his position in Friday evening’s finale.
Mustaffa Nasir consolidated his runner up position at U14 degree after
he easily won the 1200m and Discus contests and finished 6th
in the high jump, whilst Kayleigh Clarke retained her 2nd
placing after she also added points with a 3rd placing in the
1200m and a 4th placing in the high jump. Sean Flanagan’s
absence from the 3rd round meant he dropped down to 8th
overall but he too can move back up into the top six with some good
performances in the final.
Cathal Dervan moved up the table from 6th to 5th
in the U13 division after he secured extra points with a gutsy
performance in the 600m where he finished 2nd and in the 80m
where he shared the points for 6th place.
Despite finishing 3rd in the 600m and 6th in the
shot putt Seamus Noone was pushed back into second overall in the U12
division with Christopher Duffy and James Ackerman chasing him in 3rd
and 4th after they both secured additional points last Friday
evening, whilst both Nadine Johnston Hickey and Grace Dervan can still
move up from 11th and 13th respectively if they
put in some good performances this Friday.
Kevin Lahiff retained his 4th place position at U11 degree
after another good outing and he and Carl Graham (9th) can
both secure top six awards with one meet remaining, as can Aaron Murray
and Yan-Aengus Geraghty in the U10 division where they are presently
placed 5th and 9th respectively.
Elsewhere Eoin Doherty won the minor long jump in the Leinster Schools
Championships in Santry yesterday whilst later on in the evening at the
same venue Sean Mc Cabe recorded 55.2 when he won the Grade D 400m in
the 3rd meet of Dublin Senior Graded Series where Artjuom
Kutjavin finished 4th in grade B in a time of 53.19 and
Bonaface Chege finished 4th in the grade D mile with Colm
Barcoe following him home in 8th.
On Sunday last Tomas Fitzpatrick finished 10th in the AAI
Games 3,000m contest at Santry where he recorded a time of 8.24 whilst
Keith Sherlock finished 9th overall in the Sportsworld 5 mile
road race with a time of 27.22 where Viv O’ Hanlon finished 1st
in the O/60 category and both Jaqui Boyle and Beth Fitzpatrick took 2nd
prize in their respective O/40 and O/55 categories. Brendan Ryan, Gerry
Woods, Dave Meehan, Terry Fayne, Tomas Fitzpatrick Snr and Tara Woods
all competed well in the event, whilst on the same day Shay Murphy
finished the Kildare Marathon in a time of 3.23.
Our juveniles athletes will be putting in their best efforts at the last
of the Leagues on Friday in Irishtown and on Sunday next on home ground
in Tallaght where many will be vying for titles and National
qualification when they contest the U9/10/11 team and relay
Championships and the U12 ball throw Championships.
