No less than
six Tallaght juvenile athletes maintained their positions at
the top of the Juvenile Cross Country Leagues, with a number
of others moving closer to the top after the third meet of
the season in the Phoenix Park last Sunday.
Christopher Duffy again secured maximum points to stay top
of his division after he won the U11 contest which was run
over an extended 1,000m and he was again followed home in
second by Seamus Noone, with Ryan Kidd following them home a
few places further back in the field.
In the girls equivalent Nadine Johnston Hickey and Grace
Dervan are presently lying 3rd and 4th respectively after
their good runs have the opportunity to close on the leaders
in the final race of the series, whilst Alana Walsh again
made further progress after she finished 17th with Megan
Doyle and Emily Davis following her home.
At U10 degree
Kevin Lahiffe made further progress to move into 3rd overall
after his 6th placing in the 800m and debutante Ianaengus
Geraghty will be looking forward to his next race after he
finished a good 9th. In the girls equivalent Eve Keegan is
still in the hunt for the top 6 awards after she finished
11th and Orla Doyle, Faye Dervan and Katie Jordan moved up a
few places after they finished well up in the large field of
runners.
Cathal Dervan was another who ran a great race to finish
second in the U12 1500m and although he is presently lying
2nd overall he still has a chance to go top of the table on
17th of October. Rebecca Casey was another who made further
progress in the girls equivalent. At U13 degree both
Kayleigh Clarke and Aloisa King finished in the top half of
the field in their 1700m contest whilst Ronan Mc Enaney
enjoyed another top ten finish in his race.
At U15 degree Conor Murray secured enough points to maintain
top position after he finished 4th in his 2500m contest,
whilst Sean Mc Cabe’s 3rd placed finish in the U16 3000m
contest was enough to keep him top of that division.
Uchenna Uwechue who was placed second overall after the
first 2 leagues moved up a spot to share top points in the
U17 age group with Aaron Mc Donagh moved into the bronze
medal position after he finished 5th and both Roisin O’
Hanlon and Frankie Walsh stayed at the top in the U19
category after they came home alone in their respective 4k
and 6k contests.
At the same
venue some of our senior athletes contested the Dublin
Novice Cross Country Championships where Artjom Kutjavin in
his first ever cross country race was the first to cross the
line for Tallaght in the men’s 6k contest with Luke Coleman
next to finish ahead of Sean Fiitzpatrick and David
Somerville. In the women’s 4k race Sharon Tighe (16th) led
home the Tallaght team with Paula Murray (22nd) next
followed by Gwen Baker, Marisa Mc Millan, Susan Adams, Jenny
Jones, Mairead Nic Siosta and Tracy Powell.
