Brian Gregan stormed to victory in the National
400m Championships at Santry last weekend, recording a new P.B. of
46.44. in claiming his first National Senior title. He was deservedly
triumphant of this truly superb performance, considering he had less
than a few weeks to recover from a hamstring injury which shattered his
chances of a medal in the recent European U23 Championships. Winning
this title undoubtedly made up for that unfortunate mishap and his time
which qualifies him for the 2010 European Championships was the icing on
the cake.
There was further joy for Tallaght in the
5,000. After Olympian Alistair Cragg had gone beyond recall, the real
battle for the minor honours rested with the other runners until the
remaining three laps, when Mark Christie (Mullingar Harriers) and our
own Sean Connolly established a clear gap on the main field which
included our own Eoin Dunne, and they bravely fought toe-toe until near
the finishing line where Sean Connolly pulled out the extra strength and
speed to take the silver medal with a seasonal best time of 14.01.
