Another Good Week for Tallaght Athletes

Following the recent successes of many of our juveniles last week it was the turn of some of our senior and older juveniles to make their mark in the past week.

On Sunday last Ray Fitzsimons took the 2nd prize in the 0/50 category in the Newry Marathon after he carded a time of 3.18, whilst Susan Holland ran 3.58 and Jenny Jones in her first ever Marathon did very well, finishing the course in a time 4.04. The previous day Keith Sherlock maintained his recent good form with another good outing in the Donore Harriers 5k road race where he finished 9th in a time of 16.13 whist in the same contest Jaqui Boyle finished 2nd overall in her O/40 category.

More recently on a warm evening in Irishtown there were some very encouraging performances from a number of athletes who competed in the 4th meet of the Dublin Graded League Series. Daniel Kilgallon was the first out of the blocks in the grade “C” 100m where he finished 2nd in a time of 12.66 and he was followed by Dean Siney who after an absence of more than 7 or 8 years showed he retained many of his natural abilities when winning the grade “B” contest with a good time of 11.77. Keith Doherty after a number of wins in the previous meets stepped up to the “A” grade where he finished 5th with a time of 11.64, just 3 hundreds short of his personal best.

The 800m contests followed with both Philip Murray and John Daly contesting the “D” race where the latter in his first run in many months had a good run, finishing 6th in 2.16.14 with Philip one place behind with a time of 2.16.22. Sean Mc Cabe stepped up to grade “C” and ran a superb race which he dictated from start to finish and in winning recorded a new personal best of 2.05.7 which was a massive improvement of over 5 seconds. Artjom Kutjavin also stepped up to grade “B” and he too put in another very good performance, recording 1.59.6 when crossing the line in 2nd and in the same grade David Somerville recored a good time of 2.06.7.

The final race of the evening the 3,000 “A” contest fell to Sean Connolly who unfortunately, in absence of someone to race against had to grind out the 7.5 laps on his own, but he still managed to recorded a very respectable time of 8.17.07.
