Tallaght Athletes do Well at Home & Abroad

Tomas Fitzpatrick retained his recent good form when taking 3rd spot with a good time of 18.55 in the Dunboyne 4 mile road race last Sunday where Davy Byrne also had a good outing finishing in a time of 20.28 with Keith Sherlock next to finish for the club in 21.26 and he was followed home by Sean Walsh in 24.50.

Also on Sunday last the Tallaght club was well represented in the Liverpool International Half Marathon where 20 of our master runners competed with many of them finishing well up in the field of more than 6,300 finishers. Gerry Woods was the first runner from the club to cross the line in a time of 1.22.58 and he was placed 3rd overall in the O/50 category. He was followed home by Gerry Dore (1.30.02) and Shay Murphy (1.30.14) with Viv O’Hanlon next (1.31.57) taking 2nd overall in the O/60 category.

John Stokes was next to finish (1.32.21) followed by our first female finisher Sharon Tighe who was the 24th woman to cross the line and 4th overall in the O/40 category in a time of 1.32.50. Dave Meehan (1.35.06) came next, then Sean Murray (1.35.24), Martin Haddock (1.36.08,  Pat Kelly (1.40.14), Anna King (1.40.46), Deirdre Pitts (1.42.46) Terry Fayne (1.43.05), Paula Murray (1.45.49), Susan Adams (1.48.21), Karl Geraghty (1.54.47), Liz Conroy (1.58.00), Gary Clarke (2.00.00), Bernie Furley (2.09.09) and Denis Cahill (2.09.51).

Next up for the club is the second weekend of the National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Nenagh where a number of runners including Keith Doherty U17 200m, Aloisa King U14 walk, Conor Murray U16 800m, Jade Johnston U16 800, Sean Mc Cabe U17 800m and Uchenna Uwechue U18 800m are expected to do well on the first day with 5 relay teams hoping to make the finals the following day.

The following week Sean Connolly will be making his marathon debut when he contests the Rotterdam Marathon and if his recent form is anything to go by he should do quite well.
