Last weekend was another great weekend for Tallaght in Santry where our juvenile athletes contested the individual Dublin Juvenile Track & Field Championships.
The Tallaght youngsters made the podium on no less than 36 occasions with Conor Murray stepping up seven times over the three days, after he won the U15 800m with a new P.B., the 250m hurdles and high jump titles, silver in the 80m hurdles, javelin and discus and bronze in the shot putt. In the same age group Dylan Kennedy recorded a new P.B. in the long jump which earned him a well deserved silver medal and just missed out on the podium on two more occasions after he finished 4th
Killian Morris won the U16 High Jump & 250m titles and added silver in both the 80m hurdles and javelin, whilst in the same age group the recent All Ireland Schools Junior 100m champion and 200m runner up Keith Doherty took the same colours in these championships. Sean Mc Cabe recorded a P.B. in both the U16 800m which he won and in the 1500m where he finished 3rd and he added another bronze in the 3,000m. John Daly also recorded a new P.B. when winning bronze in the 800m and just missed out on the podium in the 1500m also at U16 degree.
At U17 degree Uchenna Uwechue won the 800m & 100m hurdle titles, silver in the 1500m and finished 4th in the 3,000m ahead of Philip Murray who was 5th, whilst Niall Meehan took the U19 3,000m title. Sean Flanagan was another to run exceptionally well after his storming finish earned him silver in the U13 600m, whilst Eoin Doherty won bronze in both the 200m & shot putt contests.
Christopher Duffy had a fantastic run in the U11 600m, which he won with ease after sprinting to victory over the final 100m, and Seamus Noone the silver medal winner made it a 1-2 in this contest for Tallaght. The U11 girls almost did likewise in their 600m contest with Grace Dervan taking the title in 1.59.6 and Nadine Johnston Hickey the bronze, just .4 of a second off the silver medal winner. After taking the U12 ball throw title last week Nicole Fullam recorded a new P.B. in the shot put to claim silver.
Kayleigh Clarke won the U13 high jump title and finished runner up in the 600m and was 4th in the 80m sprint final, whilst Jade Johnston accounted for 5 medals after she took the U15 250m hurdles & javelin titles and bronze in the 800m, 80m hurdles and high jump contests and at U19 degree Roisin O’ Hanlon won the 800m title and took silver in the 1500m.
Elsewhere, Sean Connolly had a disappointing run in a 5k contest in Bilbao Spain where he perhaps unwisely contested the earlier part of the contest with a group of Kenyans who set a very fast pace over the first 5-6 laps which left him short of pace in the latter stages of the contest. However, he will be aspiring to make the European qualifying standard in two further contests in Stockholm & Belgium on 1st and 10th of July.
At Morton Stadium last Saturday evening Sean Bolger recorded 23.39 after he won the Dublin Championship 200m “B” contest.
Our juveniles will again be involved in competition next weekend where many will be contesting the National U9/U10/U11 team Championships & U11 relay championships in Templemore, Co Tipperary and the Dublin even age Championships in Tallaght next Saturday
