Last weekend was a great weekend for the club in both the Dublin
Juvenile & National Indoor Championships which took place in Tallaght,
Santry and the Odyssey Arena in Belfast where many of our athletes
reached the podium.
At the Odyssey Arena in Belfast the recent Echo Sports Star Monthly
award winner Tomas Fitzpatrick contested the National Indoor 3,000m
contest where he ran a new P.B. of 8.10.91 for the distance when taking
the bronze medal, whilst David Somerville ran a new P.B. for the 800m.
Elsewhere, over the course of the first three days of the Dublin
Juvenile Championships the young athletes won 6 gold, 4 silver and 4
bronze medals after Cathal Dervan won the U13 800m title unchallenged as
did Jade Johnston in the U16 800m and Conor Murray did likewise in his
U16 800m contest where he achieved a new P.B for the distance, whilst
Aloisa King took the U14 walk title and in the same age group Kayleigh
Clarke took both the High Jump and Long Jump titles and achieved new
P.B’s in both disciplines.
Silver medalists were Christopher Duffy in the boys U11 600m, Keith
Doherty in the U16 boys 200m and Eoin Doherty in the U15 long jump where
he jumped 5.59 to record a new personal best, whilst Dylan Kennedy added
a fourth silver in the U16 shot putt and later added bronze in the long
jump. Seamus Noone ran another good race to take the bronze in theU12
600m and both Sean Mc Cabe and Uchenna Uwechue did likewise in their
respective U17 & U18 800m finals, with Uchenna knocking a few seconds of
his previous best time.
Others to do well were Faye Dervan, Sophia Kourrini, Lauren Mc Dermott,
Jorden Bracken and Fionn Seville who all contested the U10 500m whilst
Carl Graham, Kevin Lahiffe, Eve Keegan and Bliathin Seville did well in
the U11 600m. At U12 degree, Nadine Johnston Hickey, Grace Dervan, Alana
Walsh, Megan Doyle and Kerry Woods, James Ackerman, Ryan Kidd, Nazim
Kourrini and Oisin Brennan all competed well in their 600m contests.
At U17 degree both Boniface Chege and John Daly ran well in their 800m
final as did Heather Meehan in her 200m final and Philip Murray in the
U18 800m.
Most of these young athletes and others will be looking forward to the
second weekend of these Championships where they will contest the 1500m
contests and relays on our own track in Tallaght and in Santry where
they will contest the 60m and 60m hurdles.
