Tallaght athletes were well to the fore in the large field of competitors who ran the St. Patricks 5k, which started and finished at the Mansion House on Sunday last. Sean Connolly, after a great run the previous week in Manchester was again the top Tallaght finisher in 2nd (14.38) with another sparking performance behind Mark Christie of Mullingar Harriers. Anthony Lieghio only home on a break from scholarship in the States was next home in 10th (15.36), followed by Davy Byrne in 14th (15.58) and Keith Sherlock on the comeback trail with a good 36th placing (16.46).
Sean Walsh finished a few minutes behind in 84th and was followed next by Colm Barcoe, Sean Fitzpatrick (3rd junior), Sean Mc Cabe and Viv O’ Hanlon with daughter Roisin the 1st Junior lady to cross the line, leading the Tallaght ladies home. Paula Murray was next, followed by Susan Adams, Martina Farrell and Peig Dunne with husband Richard not too far behind.
Elsewhere, Brian Connolly finished a very creditable 7th in the senior boy’s Irish Schools Cross Country Championships in Cork.
