A number of Tallaght
juveniles helped Dublin secure National team honours after they put in
some sound performances in the National Uneven Age Cross Country
Championships at Tullmore on Sunday last.
Grace Dervan again put in
another good performance in the U11 1500m contest where she was the 4th
scoring member of the Dublin team after she finished 28th of the 131
finishers, helping secure both Inter County & Regional Bronze team
medals for the Capitol.
At U13 degree our Dublin
U13 silver medallist Sean Flanagan also ran well to finish 18th overall
in a tough 2,500m contest and his efforts helped Dublin secure the Inter
County Gold & Regional Bronze medals whilst Roisin O’ Hanlon in her
final year as a juvenile athlete bowed out in style after she helped the
Dublin team secure Inter County Gold & Regional Silver after she
finished 19th in the gruelling U19 5,000m contest.
Other athletes who ran on the day included Christopher Duffy who
finished a good 17th of the 147 finishers in the U11 1500m and he was
followed home by Kevin Lahiff, Karl Graham, James Ackerman and Ryan Kidd
whilst in the girls equivalent Nadine Johnston Hickey was the 2nd
Tallaght athlete (69th) to follow Grace Dervan home with Alana Walsh a
little further back.
Erin O’ Connor was the first of the Tallaght girls to finish the U13
2,500m contest, followed by Kayleigh Clarke, Ciara Jordan and Aloisa
King, whilst Michael Ward (53rd) was next to follow Sean Flanagan home
in the boys equivalent with Cathal Dervan and Ronan Mc Eneaney a little
further back in the large field of finishers, whilst both Conor Murray
and Jade Johnston had to retire half way through their U15 3,500m
contests with injury and sickness and Uchenna Uwechue finished in the
top half of the U17 5,000m contest.
Elsewhere on the same day many of our senior athletes were involved in
the Dublin Masters Cross Country Championships in St Annes Park, Raheny,
where Jaqui Boyle came home first in the O/40 category and she led the
Tallaght Ladies team consisting of Sharon Tighe, Susan Adams and Grainne
Coogan to 4th team overall. In the men’s contest Viv O’ Hanlon took
silver in the O/55 category.
Our juveniles will now be preparing for the Dublin Indoor Track & Field
Championships which take place in February and whilst some of our senior
athletes will be contesting Regional & National Indoors others will be
preparing for the National Inter Clubs Cross Country Championships which
are scheduled for Santry on 26th February.
