Tallaght AC
veteran Sharon Tighe won the opening race in the Winter
League Cross Country held at Griffeen Park,Lucan. The race
attracted 102 runners in very tough underfoot conditions.
Sharon returned to training at Meet & Train last season and
was a regular top five finisher in her first league series.
She finished the two-mile course in 13 minutes 17 seconds,
beating Emilllia Dan of Dunboyne and Lucan's Nicola Kavanagh.
Sharon’s
breakthrough is well deserved for an athlete who trains very
hard. The race was tough due to the recent heavy rain but
the diminutive athlete made light work of the course to
finish 8 seconds clear of her nearest rival.
This performance capped off a great team performance for
Tallaght with Marisa Mc Millan in 20th, Jenny Jones in 25th,
Susan Holland in 30th and race debutant Lisa Young running a
sound race in 36th.
Our ladies will be looking forward to the next round in the
series is at St Ann's Park, Raheny on Sunday November 28,
whilst many our juveniles will be in action in the National
even age Cross Country Championships in Derry on the same
day.
In the meantime we will have a large turnout of juveniles in
the Dublin Uneven age Cross Country Championships this
Sunday in Marlay Park, Rathfarnham where they will be
chasing Dublin titles and qualification for the Nationals in
Tullamore on 19th of December.
