Tallaght Athletes to the fore in Recent Competitions

Tallaght hosted the 2nd Ladies Meet & Train competition at our club house and had 4 teams who competed in the 2 mile race in Tymon Park last Sunday where Sharon Tighe finished 5th overall and was followed next by Paula Murray in 10th with Michelle Carroll the former National Champion who won a host of 100m and 200m titles between 70’s and the 90’s in her first contest for many years finishing a good 13th. Tara Woods and Jenny Jones were amongst the other runners to do well for the club on the day.

Many of our juveniles were also in action again and after the first two rounds of the Dublin Juvenile Track & Field Leagues Series which took place on the Tallaght track on Friday week last and the previous Saturday a number of our young athletes secured enough points to top the table with many others well up in the hunt for the top six honours.

Jade Johnston is leading the U16 girls division and her 43 points which she secured with 2 wins, 5 seconds and a 3rd placing in her T&F contests to date places well clear of her rivals with to leagues remaining, whilst in the boys U16 Conor Murray is also leading after he accumulated 46 points from 3 wins and 5 second placed finishes, but his 1 point advantage over Adam Raitt of Brothers Pearse A.C. will see this division go all the way to the last League meeting.

In the U15 division Epey Mutanga is presently in 3rd after he recorded wins in the 100m, 200m and shot putt contests which were the only 3 events he contested whilst Eoin Doherty is moved into the top six after he finished runner up to Epey in both the 100m and 200m and 3rd in the shot putt.

At U14 degree Kayleigh Clarke is presently in 2nd place with a total of 21 points after she recorded 2 wins in the javelin, a second placing in the 1200m and 5th in the 200m whilst Mustaffa Nasir is 2nd in the boys equivalent age group with after he secured maximum points in the 800m and a second and 3rd in the 200m and 1200m respectively, with Sean Flanagan in 6th place on 13 points after placed 3rd in the 80m, 4th in the 200m and 4th in two javelin competitions.

Cathal Dervan will be hoping to secure additional points to add to the 19 points he secured after he finished 3rd in the 80, 500m, 600m and Javelin and 4th in the 4th in the hurdles and he will be aiming over the course of the final two league contests to move up the table from his 6th placing.

In the boys U12 division Seamus Noone is topping the table with 33 points which he accumulated from 7 events over the course of the first 2 leagues with Christopher Duffy on 26.5points and James Ackerman on 17 points chasing him in 3rd and 4th respectively, whilst both Nadine Johnston Hickey and Grace Dervan will also be hoping to add to their points and move into the top six from 9th and 10th respectively.

Others who have already secured points and who will be striving to increase their tally will be U11’s Kevin Lahiff who is presently in 4th place overall, Eve Keegan and Jack Gill and in the U10 divisions Faye Dervan and Lauren Mc Dermott, Aaron Murray (5th overall), Fionn Seville, Yan-Aengus Geraghty and Jordie Jonny will be doing likewise when they contest Leagues 2 & 3 at the Santry & Irishtown tracks on Friday 13th and Friday 20th May.

Many more will be looking forward to contesting the last two juvenile contests and our U9/U10/11 girls and boys will be looking forward to the Team Competitions and relay Championships on Sunday 22nd on our own track in Tallaght.

Elsewhere Conor Murray won the 800m and Epey Mutanga the 100m in the Community & Comprehensive Schools Championships at Santry on Thursday last where they both teamed up with two other runners to take silver in the 4X100m relay for Tallaght Community School whilst Uchenna Uwechue won the Senior 1500m contest for Rathcoole.
