Dublin Athletic Board Indoor Track and Fields
Finals 7th / 8th February 2003
Tallaght had a strong juvenile team in competition at
the first weekend of
the Dublin Athletic Board Indoor Track and Field Finals. These are the qualifying events for the National Indoor Track and Field Finals which will
be held in Nenagh in April.
First on the podium for Tallaght AC was Laura Healy who secured the silver medal in Fridays U16 High Jump
final. Stephanie Game ran a super race to win bronze in the U18 200M while her sister
Rebecca won bronze in the U13
600M. Stephanie then went one better on Saturday when taking the silver in the U18 300M final. Fiona McCarthy also doubled up for Tallaght when winning
bronze in both the U19 200M and 400M finals.The boys were not to be outdone and Robert Fitzsimons produced the performance of the night on Friday when
winning a ding-dong battle with Celtic AC to win the U15 800M final. Shane Doody doubled up in the sprints to take bronze in the U16 200M and 60M.
Keith Hudson and Dave Murphy both took bronze in the U17 and U18 1500M races while Tracy Williams won the last outdoor event of the day when taking Gold
in the U19 1500M.
Tallaght athletes dominated the U13 60M sprint when Ciaran Dunne sped home to win Gold with club-mates Eoghan Hennessy and Darryl Mahon in 2nd and 4th.
The final event of the day was the U15 60M Hurdle final and Sean Morris and Luke Coleman secured their place in Nenagh when finishing 2nd and 3rd
respectively.
Carol Jones, Peter Fitzsimons and Ciara O Leary all produced personal best performances and may yet be called up into the Nationals.
The club now turns its attention to next weeks Relay and Field events finals and will be confident of getting more athletes through to the Nationals.
